A must read for personal defense

I was reading Massad Ayoob's "Deadly Force, Understanding Your Right to Self Defense." At one point in the book he highly recommended this book so that one can really know when it is justifiable to defend himself from an attacker by having scientific knowledge about the potential harm of various types of weapons. So I ordered this Medicolegal book and have spent the last two weeks reading it. I have no scientific, legal or medical background yet I have been able to thoroughly understand the contents because that is how Dr.s Spitz and Fisher decided to write it, that a layman could use it. I really had no clue how deadly and dangerous a knife attack could be until I read the section on "Sharp Force Injury." I had no idea how horrific an attack with a baton or pipe or hammer could be until I read the section on "Blunt Force Injury." Really, most any object or even a bare handed karate chop or being kicked in the vital organs or head can permanently disable or kill you rather quickly. A must read for anyone who is planning on defending himself or his loved ones from a home invasion or street attack in that you will have a very clear comprehension as to what injury or death likely awaits you if you fail to take defensive action to stop the threat.

As others said just a text book, but most informative, thought mine was
new but had high-lights and thumbed pages, but not too bad. Massad Ayoob
recommended in his "Deadly Force" book for information on what will happen
to YOU if attacked by any of the means examined within (the jury can be
compelled to read it to show you really were in danger) the old idea "He just
had a knife!" is shown as stupid.

Wish I could Un-read this book.

OK well......(may contain spoilers) I enjoyed the HoN series until this book.. It didn't hold up to the rest honestly.. I wish now after finishing the series that I had not read this last book and just kept what I thought would happen to myself. I expected too much from the last in this series.
I too was a Heath fan... Stark loves Z, I get that but really come on now. Heath was made a promise from Nyx and it wasn't fullfilled. Heath should have been redeemed and he should have gotten his girl.. Rephaim should have had been able to be human 24hrs a day as well. Atone one, atone them all.

Neferet is bat sh*t crazy as always but come on the Nerd-Herd from previous books wouldn't have been lax in wanting to save those inside the Hotel.

The addition of Lynette was definately not needed.

The only part of the book I agree with is Kalona. He deserved what he got.

I really wanted to like this book but I can't. What happens to them after the end... They all just leave???? Whatever.

If there was an option to give it a zero I would give it. This book was awful. Short juvenile sentences. Story lines that are completely irrelevant to the prior 10 books. People that pop into the story just so we don't forget that they existed in prior books. And end battle worthy of a 6th grader. I struggled to read the book and only forced myself because of all the time invested in the prior books. I guess I was hopeful that the book would eventually turn out ok.

I enjoyed the first couple of books in this series despite the teen-speak (which sounded like nothing no teenager had ever spoken before). I enjoyed the concept of a vampyre finishing school. This book was okay, but not great.
We never see why exactly Kalona changed his mind and decided to come back to the side of "Light." Nothing is particularly new. He realized that he cared for his favorite son, but wasn't this obvious even when he was on the side of evil?
Zoey is still a Mary-Sue. At the beginning of the novel, she turns herself in for murdering two humans and expects to face righteous consequences (in her case, death). Who does that?
Aurox sacrifices himself to entrap Neferet. What? How does he accomplish this and why couldn't it have been done before? There is no explanation, only the events.
Why do humans flock to the HoN for protection when the media has previously made vampyres out to be bloodthirsty creatures? Nobody knows.
The romance between Shaunee and Erin seemed rather forced, as if to pacify fans that liked Erik and were disappointed that he was without a love interest after Shaylin became involved with Nicole.
Lastly, and this is not an all-inclusive list, it seems that Neferet being trapped like Kalona was a really anti-climactic end to the series. Of course, I knew Zoey and her friends would triumph, but come on.. would Neferet the evil genius really approach Zoey in a nigh-abandoned park and attempt to battle with her? I think not.

I give it three stars because, while I was reading the majority of it, it was somewhat compelling. I enjoyed Lynette.

This one is not really an issue I had with the conclusion to the series, but it would have been nice if the authors described Zoey's circle's adult vampyre tattoos.

About the Author

Evan M. Berman is university chair professor at the National Chengchi University (Taipei, Taiwan) Doctoral Program in Asia-Pacific Studies, and the Department of Public Administration. Prior to moving to Taiwan, he was the Huey McElveen Distinguished Professor at Louisiana State University, and professor of public administration at the University of Central Florida and the University of Miami. Evan Berman is widely recognized a leading scholar of his generation and has published widely on topic of productivity, performance and human resources management in the U.S. and abroad. He has taught quantitative methods and research methods for over twenty years the result of which is this book. Berman has served as a policy analyst for the National Science Foundation. The conceptual and non-mathematical approach is inspired by a background in physics.

XiaoHu Wang is Professor of Public Administration at City University of Hong Kong. Previously, he was Professor of Public Administration at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He has more than 20 years of experience teaching statistical methods, public budgeting, and financial management. He has been working with many U.S. governmental and nonprofit agencies as project manager, analyst, or performance evaluator. His applications of statistical methods in research and practice have helped many governments and nonprofits improve their performance and operations. Disappointed & annoyed

Annoyed that I can't use this with the kindle app on the computer. I have Windows 10, yet when I try to open the book, it says it is incompatible with Windows 8. For as much as this book costs, I should be able to use it on any device. I should've just purchased the hard copy. I haven't used it a ton yet, since I just bought it. It seems useful enough, but I also wish it was possible to write in the answers to the questions.
