I had the 3rd edition to this book and the 4th edition is almost the same. It is more colorful which I love because colors help me remember things. The HESI hints are highlighted in a green box. And when you use the code in the front cover of the book on evolve you get access to plenty of questions! Worth the money!

Great study guide for Hesi exams.

My nursing school requires us to take Hesi exams though-out our program. I'm in my last semester of my nursing program I've avoided buying the 3e thinking it was a waist of money. I saw that the 4e just came out so I decided I would try it. I scored a 99.99% conversion score on my Pediatric Hesi! I normally score anywhere from 75-85% on Hesi's. I would definitely recommend buying this if you receive credit in nursing school for the Hesi's.

As good or better than the film

This tie in comic has but one clear reason to exist: answering audience questions about how the city would cope with all the damage depicted in the film's climax. A lesser question answered is how the monsters would function in this world, which runs on very different logic from the show. It has a very simple foil too: the Rangers, given their own personal tragedies, could have turned out a lot worse. The new villains show that in ways Rita in the film couldn't. The film hints a future with Tommy in it. This gives the Rangers something to do until then. It could lead to an entire series happening between films, which is critical if Saban wants to stay competitive against Marvel. How the town reacts to Rangers being in it also reveals that this is definitely a world modeled after today, as opposed to an idealized 1990s. If you left the movie theater wanting more, this is a great way to get your post movie fix. The end of the comic definitely leaves you the same way, but still gives more character development. Must have if you liked the movie!

I Loved This Book!

I just read this book on my Blackberry Kindle (getting a real Kindle in a few weeks) and this is one of the best romance novels I have ever read. I have been reading this while sitting behind my desk at work. I started this book at 4:15 p.m and finished at 11:02 p.m. I still cannot believe what a suspenseful page turner this was. I loved the attitude of Jake. Madeline was quite the character as well, thinking Jake was a gigolo. I had to remember I was at work to keep from laughing too loud because there were some funny points here. One of my favorite parts was picking Jake's sister up and she asking Madeline if her ex, Oliver, cheated on her with a man because his name sounded gay. I mean, I do not laugh at gay people, but that was too much, I could no longer contain the laughter. It is rare in these romance books to add such color and personality to the characters, but this author mastered that beautifully. I was still shocked that this book was free because I would have gladly paid $6.99 for that. I hope this author does not stop because this book was too good. If I could rate it more I would, but since we stop at 5, that is what this novel will get. Cannot wait to start a new book, as I am searching the Kindle store now, because I have 50 more minutes at work!

Pasionate, hot and steamy...and a quick read to boot

I am not one to read romance novels on a regular basis; however, this book really appealed to me. At times the plot did get convoluted, but as is the nature of romance novels, love is suppose to win out in the end. As for the steaminess of this novel, all I can say is that I may begin reading more romance novels for the passion depicted in this book was deliciously steamy.

This was indeed a good read.

Comprehensive overview of Islamic Philosophy

Unfortunately in the West, even with a lot of first-class scholarship now going on to recover the thought of various periods in the history of both Western and Eastern Philosophy, the course of Philosophy in the Muslim world is relatively unknown. This book, edited by Seyyed Hussein Nasr, gives an excellent and comprehensive history of Philosophy as it has meandered through 14 centuries of Islamic intellectual thought and religious belief.

Anyone who reads this book will quickly realise much of the garbage being said about Islam today as always being a deeply backward part of world civilisation whose essential basis is wars of conquest and terrorism is utter nonsense. Jihadi terrorism itself has its roots in the thoughts of the Egyptian radical thinker and writer Seyyd Qutb, who was disgusted at the excesses of 1950's America, and also to an extent also in the thought of Ayotallah Homeni, the Iranian philosopher and theologian who was deeply influenced by thinkers such as Ibn-Arabi. Yet while these thinkers are important, they only form a small part of the overall very rich tapestry of Islamic philosophical thought, which ranges from schools which followed Aristotle and Plato to mystical schools like those of Ibn-Arabi and Shawradi, and schools which closely examined what would now be called the philosophy of law and politics. Islamic thought also contains a rich tradition in the Philosophy of Religion, which asked questions about what Holy Scripture means and how it is to be interpreted, what can and cannot be said about God, how humans can know God, and so on. Also interesting are Islamic examinations of epistemology, science, and metaphysics, which often contains a range and depth of sophistication equalling that of that found in other world civilisations.

This book is worth reading by any serious student of Philosophy interested to see how humans in another mode of civilisation have attempted to answer the basic questions which seem to puzzle human beings anywhere in the world.

Jake...

This is a story of Jake, a normal teenage boy trying to live a normal teenage life. He deals with insecurity, learns to appreciate family, and learns to love...
Then some very unexpected things happen to him, and he must learn to cope, or not.

This book is both funny and sad, hopeful and tragic.

There were only a few things that I didn't like about the book. The author had me very confused as to Jake's actual age. Sometimes I felt that he was perhaps a middle school kid, reading some of the character's thought processes. The first half of the book was slow going, for me at least. And, I know this is just me, but I live in the US, so some of the British slang and mannerisms were unnerving. I like to understand what I am reading, so I found myself looking alot of things up, so I would know what they meant.

I was upset that Jake's parents acted so irresponsibly, Dad in particular. I know the drinking age in the UK is 18, but it is still reprehensible for a parent to tell his 15 yo son that it is ok to "have a beer or two" while babysitting! And then Jake blames himself, and very few people correct him, and NO ONE gets him any psychological counseling.

I liked that we are told all the mundane, boring bits, so that we know Jake's life is a normal one. A typical teenage boy. Then you're hit with a twist so big, you may feel a bit like you've been sucker-punched. The author has written all of the characters so well, and so complex, you will feel as if you are in the story with them.

Overall, I think the book was well written, and would recommend it to my kids. But if you don't like disturbing content, you should probably skip it, as this book covers a fair amount of tragedy.

Painfully real and achingly moving account of a teenage boy

I read 'Jake' over the course of a week and, during that time, the character really got under my skin. Throughout a lot of the book, nothing spectacular actually happens. It's a fairly mundane account of a teenager growing up in family and school life. This is not a negative, though. The writing is beautiful and perfectly captures the thoughts of a teenage boy, his awkwardness around family, friends and his new girlfriend. It feels very true to real life and, at times, it is painfully real.

The ordinary day-to-day descriptions of Jake's life could be seen as being slightly repetitive, but for me it was a master-stroke and Jake's whole existence had an undercurrent of impending tragedy. But, there are lots of small smiles to be raised in the book, especially in Jake's relationship with his brother, Ben, which is genuinely tender and achingly touching. Jake's relationships with his family and friends are all too real and believable. This is perhaps what makes the last quarter of the book all the more shocking and tragic.

Be warned, this isn't an uplifting read, but it is written with real skill and feeling. I was incredibly moved by Jake's story and it is well worth a look.

An interesting story

Jake is just an ordinary boy who wants to be liked.

This sentence sums up Jake pretty well. The story of Jake is the story of a pretty ordinary teenage boy going through his ordinary day to day life. I think that is what makes this book interesting, the fact that Jake is just like the kid next door...or just like you. He has a good home, a nice life, and satisfying friendships. He is not some secret superpower waiting to be discovered - he's just Jake.

The characters are well written and believable. Jake's little brother Ben is cute. I think it is hard to write kids and make them credible, but the author is able to do it here.

Overall I enjoyed this story, though it was a bit depressing. I guess life is sometimes, though. The beginning was a bit slow for me, but as Jake's story continued things and people's lives started weaving together and created an interesting narrative.
